Vanasda Parba 2011

Yet another day full of fun, food and frolic when the Billawas of Muscat, Oman, again got together to have a great evening – “VANASDA  PARBA” –  at Saud Bahwan Residency 1, Al Khuwair, on 17th February, 2011.

A unique concept, thought out by the Ladies wing of the Working committee, to have wholesome, home-made, authentic Mangalorean cuisine, turned out to be thumping success with voluntary participation from ‘Biruvedis’ & ‘Biruvers’ from all over Oman. Apart from Muscat, ladies from Seeb, Barkha, Nizwa, Sohar, Liwa and Ibri had also come, in good numbers, to participate in this event.

The programme commenced with the lamp being lit by the Ladies Wing members. Mrs. Suchetana Anchan and Mr. Anand Sanil welcomed the gathering and appreciated the overwhelming participation of the ladies, duly supported by their families. The President Late Shri Pitamber Alke while welcoming the gathering, appreciated the keen interest taken by the Working Committee members in bringing out a number of programs during the past 6 months, resulting in more and more Billawas coming together to participate in such events in large numbers.

It was mouth-watering Mangalorean dishes all over the place, with all the ladies proudly displaying a variety of vegetarian & non-vegetarian dishes along with the neer-dosas, semeda-adde, pundis, idlis and rottis, not to mention the different kinds of sweets. This was a unique opportunity for more than 60 Biruvedis to exhibit their culinary skills, to the gastronomic delight of the 450+ Biruvas and children.

The special attraction of the evening was the popular sport of Tulunaadu – “Korida-katta” & “Tharaida Katta”, which was witnessed and immensely enjoyed by everyone with melodious Music Karaoke by our fellow Billawa Shri Harish Sanil and Party. Other spot prizes were given away to a number of children and members, who participated in the various games arranged on this occasion.

The evening of celebration came to a close with the auction of the “live kori’s”, “tharai’s” and ‘fresh vegetables’ on display.
